A start

Welcome to my blog,

Everyone has to try it, let's see how it works.

Hopefully there will be some stories to share and interesting inside views from the life of young cyclist trying to make it into the big world.

This year hasn't been one to remember, the results have been few and far between, a mix of getting sick at the wrong times and simply horrible luck has often left me pondering as to why we put ourselves through all the hard times, it's only when it's all going wrong that you realise how tough the sport is. It's then that you realise how great the feeling of achievement actually is and what emotions come about when you stand on the podium.

On the up side, life with the team has been memorable, Willie Smit keeps us guessing as to what his next comment will be with sparks of brilliance taking others by surprise. We have this group on Whatsapp where the team members prefer having a dig at each other rather than discussing anything of relevance, often finding ourselves smiling at our phones like complete idiots. Promise to post a conversation at some point.

We are in the winter months now and the temperatures have certainly dropped substantially in the last few days, Pietermaritzburg gets below 0•C but warms up quickly once the sun is out. The early morning club rides are characterised by packing the layers on and racing each other in the dark, followed by a compulsory coffee before getting on with the day. Luckily, these rides are few and far between as I have the luxury of training a bit later in the day thanks to the flexibilities of Unisa.

Anyway, off to JHB today for my last exam tomorrow, sad to be missing some big training days with Brandon Stewart and Darren Lill this week. Brandon stays just up the hill from me and we do a fair amount of training together, Darren is staying here to get some longer climbs in before his next overseas trip.

Cheers for now, Brad
